In the Spring of 2015 I traveled to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic for the first time, and I fell in love with it. Now, while it’s not a place I would want to live for the rest of my life, Santo Domingo does hold a special place in my heart. So special, in fact, that I visited the country again in the Spring of 2016. I went with a student group both times, and together we explored the Zona Colonial, visited scenic nature areas, tested restaurants, and relaxed on the beaches. We also helped volunteer at a local boys orphanage during our stay, which was one of the most beautiful experiences of both trips. Because I have stayed in the same city in the D.R. twice now, I consider myself an “amateur expert” on how to see the best of Santo Domingo, where to stay, and how to interact with the locals. Today, based on my “amateur expertise,” I’m sharing with you a detailed guide to visiting Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Traveling in your younger years rather than later is best for many reasons, so here are 5 reasons why you should travel while you’re young!
